Giving Tree Music - Instrument Care

Whether you've recently acquired one of our drums, or have had one for a while, please follow these basic rules to maintain optimal condition for your drum:

  • Never leave your drum in a hot car. This will cause serious damage to the drum head.

  • If the head of the drum is made from natural skin, it is affected by humidity.

  • If the head feels loose, place in sun, near a fire or carefully blow with a hair dryer to tighten.

  • If the head gets wet for some reason, avoid playing until dry. If the skin is stretched, it will not return to its original tuning.

  • The oils from your hands are good for your drum, so play regularly!

  • Avoid playing with rings on fingers; this can damage your rings as well as the head of the drum.
